Williams - More than a rest stop

I think that there might be something in the water in Arizona (there actually was a Manganese problem with the water in Williams when we visited but it was due to be fixed soon) as everywhere we visit seems to have a surprise for us.

We were expecting Williams to be a little town to spend the night in before getting off to the Grand Canyon. Williams is actually a small town that has embraced it's Route 66 heritage and created a really fun vibrant town that we could have spent more time in. Just like all of the towns that we have visited recently the people were really friendly, especially the ladies who helped us figure out the Laundromat.

Williams definitely has community pride
Route 66 is big in this town

As are retro billboards - this one from our (very nice) motel the Westerner

Just incase you had forgotten this is route 66
Retro diner - pink neons and car on roof

Flashing neons

Retro gas station museum

More retro motels

Williams Main Street; hoping at 15 mph
